My Story

Thank you for visiting this webpage

What?

We are Sylvia and Alice Davies (mother and daughter).  We are planning to cycle from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, to Angkor Wat in Cambodia which is roughly 332 miles.

Daft idea!  Alice is in the middle of her studies at UWE (studying physiotherapy) and Sylvia hasn’t been on a bike for the last twenty years.

Why

Sylvia’s father, Tony, (and Alice’s grandfather) was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease over 10 years ago and sadly died in September 2023.   The illness was a real challenge for him.  His main loves were cycling and fishing – both sports that he had to stop as the illness progressed.

Tony taught Sylvia to cycle from an early age, and they had many happy trips out cycling.  These included various sponsored rides (Manchester to Blackpool) and a longer journey of Cork to Kerry about 20 years ago.

Parkinson’s disease attracts less funding than some other charities and more research is needed on this devastating illness.  We both learned a lot more about the disease (and the varying symptoms) whilst watching Tony deteriorate with it.  It is a disease that affects both the sufferer and the wider family and currently there is no cure.

We intend to raise valuable funds for Parkinson’s UK on this trip.  We have self-funded this trip so there is no maximum to raise (but we want to raise as much as we can).

When?

February 2025 – 12 days of cycling!

Please help raise as much funds for this fantastic charity!   Every little bit will help.
